Iran: Murder of a 20-year old prisoner under torture

Published on Saturday, 17 August 2013 09:58
NCRI - The Iranian regime’s security agents have killed a 20-year old prisoner under torture.
Abolfazl Rajabi, 20, was killed during interrogation in early August. He was born in 1993 and was an ordinary worker working with his father in a small workshop in the city of Mianeh.
The father of the prisoner said that his son was arrested in August t. He was able to meet with his son and observed then that his son had no physical problems except bruises and discoloration of his face.
When Ali Rajabi, father of the prisoner, went to the detention center to see his son, the security agents told him “God bless your son, he died.”
Abolfazl’s father said, “They tell me he hanged himself with the waistband of his underwear. His weight was 65 kilograms, how could he hang himself with the ribbon of underwear?.”
Murder under torture is a common phenomenon in Iranian prisons. Last year the news about killing under torture of a young blogger, Sattar Beheshti, resulted in widespread disgrace for the mullahs’ regime. But many of these murders remain covered.
Quoting a judicial official, Iran’s state-run media claimed that Abolfazl Rajabi committed suicide in the prison. However, people of Mianeh reject this claim. The lawyer of the prison said Abolfazl was a healthy youth.

Iran: Mullahs arrest 107 during mass satellite dish seizures across Iran

Published on Wednesday, 14 August 2013
NCRI - The Iranian regime's Moral Security police have arrested 107 people and seized 16,000 satellite dishes in the latest crackdown on accessing satellite TV networks.
Brigadier Mohammad-Masoud Zahedian said raids took place in Tehran and 18 other cities in recent days, and 5400 receivers and 11,000 other items including satellite dishes, motors and LNBs were confiscated.
He told the state-run Mehr news agency: "The Moral Security Police relied on intelligence and infiltration of the networks of distributors of satellite receivers and other equipment to identify those distributing this equipments across Iran.
"The network was active in Tehran and 18 other cities. Our police operation has lead to the identification and arrest of all the leaders."
Those arrested should receive their 'deserved punishments' by the help judiciary, he said.
Zahedian added: "The forces of moral security police identified and destroyed a satellite dish production unit in west of Tehran province.
"During the inspection of the workshop, 200 satellite dishes ready for shipping and 1,000 under production were discovered.
"The moral security agents were able to arrest seven leading members of the group in Tehran and 100 others affiliated to them. The members were importing these items through loopholes in the country's borders."
The value of the items seized was two trillion Rials, Zahedian said, adding: "The group had been active for two years and they have received a heavy blow. They were headquartered in Tehran but provided the items to northern and central and western provinces."
"We warn all those that are active in this area to change their behavior or otherwise face a similar fate."
Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said recently in series of decrees: "Satellite relievers provide the tools for receiving forbidden programs and spread corruption.
"Buying and keeping them are not permissible unless the person is a Muslim who is confident that would not use it for forbidden purposes, and that its use and purchase would not create any corruption in his house.
"If the satellites are used for forbidden activities which is frequently the case, or the installer or service person is aware that the user plans to use it for forbidden purposes, then the selling, buying, installing, set-up, repair and sale of parts are not permissible."
The seizures come after tens of thousands of Iranians raised 4.55 million dollars in a four-day telethon on Iran National Television (Simay-e Azadi) opposition satellite TV. The participants expressed their support for the Iranian Resistance and its President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi.
Donors used satellite dishes within Iran to watch the broadcast from August 9 to 13, while thousands more viewed the event in 34 countries around the world.
The telethon also marked the 25th anniversary of the 1988 massacre of 30,000 political prisoners, released political prisoners and family members of the martyrs and Ashraf and Liberty.

The "Ebrat Ward" for Prisoners of Conscience in Adel-Abad Prison/ Prison Cell or Ward!?

Thursday, Aug 15 2013
The Ministry of Information and Fars province's information security systems recently has build a security section known as "Ebrat" in Shiraz's AdelAbad prison which is more like a prison cell than a ward(!) in order to transfer the prisoners of conscience after being interrogated and charged in detention center of Shiraz intelligence known as No.100 to this security ward where is under tight security.
According to Majzooban Noor, Ebrat security ward is a new ward and is a small room just about 35 meters more like a prison cell than a ward! In addition, the detainees have no access to fresh air nor is there a proper ventilation and only 2 times a week, they can get some fresh air from other wards facilities. At least 400 prisoners are serving their prison terms in other wards of AdelAbad prison with 15 separate rooms but in the Ebrat ward, there are only 11 prisoners of conscience. A toilet and bathroom facility has been installed inside so that there's little reason for the prisoners to leave the cell.
In this small and inadequate space that is even insufficient for prisoners, a guy named assistant jail (!) spends all the days with these prisoners of conscience. Prisoners have to make phone calls in a limited time in the presence of security forces with the possibility of eavesdroppers. This ward has a great distance to the other wards and also to the main prison building, but (!) there is no distance between their cell-room and the place where special security guards and security prison agents were stationed.

The visits take place strictly from 12 pm to 1 pm on Sundays by inspection, checking out their profiles and getting valid visiting order. Although all these things always is done by a simple soldier in other section visits. The prisoners' families have followed up on these matters. They ask Iranian authorities why their loved ones still do not have basic human rights and their legal rights are violated this much.
The prisoners of conscience at Ebrat ward of Shiraz's AdelAbad Prison are as follows:
Kasra Nouri, the Gonabadi dervishes' rights activists and one of the collaborators of Majzooban Noor website who has been sentenced to four years and four months imprisonment on charge of belonging to a deviant group "Majzooban Noor".
Gonabadi Dervishes, Mohsen Esmaeeli, Seyed Ebrahim Bahrami, Mohammad Ali Sadeghi and Mohammad Ali Dehghan residents of Kavar town in Fars province who were charged with "the formation of terrorist group against the regime," "participating in the gatherings with the aim of overthrowing the Islamic Republic," "Moharebeh ("enmity against the God") and "carrying illegal weapons" and have been in temporary detention for three months.
Rahman Vafaee and Hamid Eslami, two Baha'is of Shiraz who were each sentenced to three years in prison on charge of propaganda against the regime and membership in the Baha'i administration.
Mojtaba Hosseini, Homayoun Shokouhi, Mohammad-Reza Partoee and Vahid Hakani the christian citizens living in Shiraz who were sentenced to three years and eight months imprisonment for propagation of the Christian faith and participating in home meetings.

NCRI - The abuse and denial of medical treatment of political prisoners is continuing across Iran, according to the latest reports from with the regime.

In Mashhad, the capital of the north eastern Khorassan province -intelligence agents arrested three Baha'i citizens on August 13, named as Fattaneh Nabilzadeh, Peyman Sarraf and Dayan Teimouri.

Majid Doori: I wanted to address my letter to the wall, but I know the wall would crumble after hearing my plight…

Friday, Aug 16 2013
Imprisoned student activist Majid Doori has written a letter from Karoon prison in Ahvaz after he was illegally transferred there from Behbahan prison. Following is translation of his letter:
I wanted to address my letter to the wall, but I know the wall would crumble after hearing my plight.....
Behbahan is a city where I spent three years of my life, without even seeing the city. When being transferred to Ahvaz, passing the Steil and Khareston squares and....I realized how many memories I have with them without having seen them before.
I realized how much memories I have from this city, without having even walked it's streets. How familiar are the people of this city, without having met them.
Behbahan; without a doubt, one day I will come back and walk your streets and alleys to make up for the lost time.
People of Behbahan; I wish you knew how eager I was to meet you. I received nothing but compassion and love filled messages from you.
My gratitude to you for being there for me. I thank you for the kindness you gave to your uninvited guess. I am grateful to all of you and hope to see you.
In route to Ahvaz, it was about 5:30 PM, the hottest time of the day. The road was dry and there was very little traffic. There were hills and heat as far as you could see. There were mountains and heat. There were palm trees and heat.
The security guard accompanying me (his name was Gholam), handcuffed and shackled me, I objected; he said: "I know best".
He is right. It appears the law is comprised of what they choose to be the law, because there was another man who was there on drug charges and was in transit to the correctional and rehabilitation facility, but he was not handcuffed or shackled. It was interesting to me how this decision was made.
The shackles had injured my legs, and, even when going to the restroom, the guard refused to remove them. Where did this decision come from? Who made these laws?
Exile, transfer, it's a torment to move from cell to another cell in a prison, much less moving to a different prison. Much less facing an additional burden. The road, the heat, shackles, long distance travel, being far away from home, missing loved ones, worries, mountains, the past, the future, mirage, hills, thorns, leg wound from the shackles, bad behavior by the guard, grief, the why of having been imprisoned, still imprisoned, handcuffs, yesterday, the now without any conclusion, tomorrow, goodbye, hello.....
During all this time, I wrote letters to every one that I should have, asking for help in my case, it all fell on blind eyes and deaf ears. Perhaps they just pretend not to hear.
Four plus years of my life have been wasted behind the walls of prison, but it is a wound never healed. It is like an open wound out of which hurt always oozes. It erupts, fixed in time, friends gone, paths traveled.
I decided to write a letter, addressed to no one. A letter to no one, not even to myself. When they don't hear, when they don't understand, then, who should I write to, when they consider themselves as the center of the world and the criterion of justice.
So selfish and egotistical they are, that they want everybody to become like them. Can they be more pretentious than this?
Who should I write to? To those who have inflicted this great injustice on me? Who should I write to, when, in four years no one has asked why?
Why did they not allow my defense attorney to present his case? Why did they, without proof, rule on a charge that the judge himself found baseless?
When the so-called independent judge himself said he was under pressure. Why did no one ask what kind of pressure? Whose pressure?
Why, when my sentence was overruled by the Supreme Court, less than 10 days later the same sentence was issued again?
My sentence was divided into two parts: Moharebeh (enemy of God), and propaganda. Why did the Appeals Court uphold the Moharebeh charge that I objected to, but overturned the propaganda charges that I did not object to?
Why was the issue of my formal complaint against the Judge and the prosecutor not even raised? Why did they enforce my exile? Why did they not even give me one day of furlough to attend my brother's wedding, even after bail was posted?
Why 250 million Tomans for 2 years? Why did the Judge include in my sentence exile to Eizeh, when there is not even a prison there? You mean he didn't know? Why exile to Behbahan? Why then exile to Ahvaz again? Why and why and tens of whys left without answers?
I spent two years and nine months in Behbahan prison. Because of the laudable behavior of my cellmates and the guards, there are few thing that I will not forget. When I came to Karoon prison in Ahvaz, how I enjoyed the courtyard and the fresh air, and the being able to see the sky, however reticulated, I couldn't help but remember the courtyard in Behbahan prison that was covered with layers of mesh wire.
Some times in the city there was a lot of dust in the air, but we never felt it because of the layers of mesh wire covering over the courtyard. There was not much air movement there, and this made the place very hot.
Every time an official or inspectors came there, they saw that. I told them about this tens of times, but each time to no avail. Breathing fresh air was a longing and seeing the sky, a dream.
A prison that housed inmates twice to two and a half times it's capacity. Less than the needed number of bathrooms. With more and more limitations in place everyday. More control everyday. Even prison visits became more & more limited.
A prison with no library. Cultural activities stopped for lack of 100 thousand Tomans. Even though there was no space to hold classes, receiving furlough was based on attending and completing classes.
When 10-12 people were in the courtyard and more then three hundred people trying to use the restroom facilities, there was hardly any space to walk. The number of the inmates who had to sleep on the floor increased daily.
Guards that made arbitrary decisions to confiscate books and other items, even under garments, and stopped them from reaching the prisoners.
They closed the concession area. Smoking was no longer permitted, but then, after objections, they were selling Winston cigaret for 6000 Tomans a pack. Favoritism in giving points towards receiving privileges, but making it harder to receive points. Non-separation of the inmates according to their crime.
The efforts of prison officials trying to remedy the problems was fruitless, due to failure to receive enough budget. Not enough space. Increased number of prisoners, without providing rehabilitation.
Very low quality of food from trying to save money, and from the purchase of low quality and cheap food. Items that, even with the prisoners trying hard to make them tasty, it was not possible and not really edible.
Officials and inspectors usually only came for visits during winter months when the weather was in better condition. Their visits never resulted in anything positive. It only created more limitations, closer monitoring of the prisoners so they couldn't disclose anything. And, if they did, they faced exile or loss of their furlough privileges. All of this was apart from all the special preparations that were done, just prior to the inspectors' visits.
I wanted to address my letter to the wall, but I know the wall would crumble after hearing my plight. So I decided to address a specific audience. Because all of these might be some peoples' criteria for human rights standards, and I might unwillingly question and/or harm the human rights criteria of these gentlemen, which according to them has become the international human rights standards.
At this time, I am in Ahvaz. Karoon prison. Another city. Courtesy requires me to first say hello to Ahvaz: Hello Ahvaz! Would you like an uninvited guest?!

Writers Association member, Akbar Amini, was re-arrested June 7, 2013 in a raid of his home. 73 days since his last arrest, Amini has not yet been permitted to contact or have visits with his family and friends.
A source close to Amini’s family has told HRANA that, “Despite more than two months since his illegal arrest, Amini has not had any contact with family or friends, and has been illegally denied the basic rights of prisoners.
His family and friends have no information on his status. All we know is that he is being kept in solitary confinement in Ward 209.
He has recently received notice from the court that his five years imprisonment sentence has been upheld by the Court of Appeals, and that his one year suspended sentence will also now be enforced. Therefore he must now report to Evin for the enforcement of his six year sentence. Apparently, the Judiciary does not know that Akbar is already incarcerated at Ward 209 of Evin prison.”
On February 14 2011, after the now detained Green leaders had called for a mass protest, Amini climbed atop a crane in Tehran holding Green Movement symbols. He was arrested after a few hours and taken to Evin prison. He was later tried and sentenced to one year imprisonment, and was released after completion of that one year term. After that release, he was arrested and summoned several times prior to his latest arrest.
